Welcome to Admiraal Tattoo, Masters of Japanese Tattoo Artistry.

Right on the edge of the center of Amsterdam, Admiraal Tattoo stands as a beacon for those seeking to adorn their bodies with art that resonates deep within the soul. We love to tattoo in the so-called ‘japanese style’, also known as Irezumi, have carried with them a rich tapestry of history, tradition, and symbolism. They're not just tattoos; they are stories, beliefs, and a celebration of one's journey.

However, At Admiraal, we believe it's not just about the story a tattoo tells, but more importantly, how it's told. Just as a well-written tale can capture the heart, the way a tattoo is executed can define its impact. We pride ourselves in our unique, archetypal approach to inking. Instead of getting lost in minute details, our focus is on crafting tattoos that, like classic literature, stand the test of time because of how they’re conveyed.

The added layer to our craft is recognizing that every individual has their own meanings and interpretations, which may vary or even contrast across cultures. This understanding and approach to tattooing is our core essence, our unique contribution. We ensure that while the symbols might differ, our way of embedding them is always rooted in tradition.

Over the years I have gravitated towards a rather impersonal style. To achieve a certain level of timelessness. I always strive to use the same level of abstraction in both the subject and the background, emphasising their connection in whatever way this develops. This is a process in which the customer participates of course. Walking this path together we are bound to come across interpretative similarities. Creating a rhythm and giving rise to change. On this journey, I feel like I have only just begun.

I’m from rural Sweden where i grew up in the nature surrounded by animals. My love for nature and animals has since become an integral part of my work. I studied for four years at the Rietveld art academy before I started tattooing. It was when I began working with Rob in 2005 that I was first introduced to the Japanese style. Since then I’ve been captivated by Japanese tattooing for it’s vibrant and long lasting designs. When working closely with my clients, I design each tattoo to ensure it not only exudes it’s unique charm but also stands the test of time, transcending fleeting trends.
